AGS supports the implementation of methodologies for the reduction of non-revenue water in water distribution systems, thus contributing to the optimisation of environmental resources and the economic efficiency of the water utilities.

The solution includes the following activities:

Preparation of diagnostics for water supply systems

Preparation of intervention plans for the reduction of non-revenue water

Performance assessment on water supply systems

Monitoring hydraulic variables

Meter management

Hydraulic modelling of the network

Technical training for operational teams

Implementing technological solutions:

Monitoring hydraulic variables in real time

Integrated meter management

Performance assessment

Water balance

Support for the renovation of water supply systems

Support for operational activities to control water losses:

Network sectorisation

Active leak detection

Programmes for inspecting network elements

Benefits

Reduction of the volume of non-revenue water (real losses, apparent losses and unbilled authorised consumption)

Optimisation of water supply network management

Increase in technical training for teams

Experience

Development of project aimed at the reduction of non-revenue water in the areas of real losses, apparent losses and unbilled authorised consumption.

Case Study

Reduction of Non-Revenue Water in Chile

Aimed at the reduction of Non-Revenue Water (NRW), AGS is coordinating a project where it implemented an efficient management model for the water supply systems in two Chilean Water Utilities where there were high levels of water losses in the system, a low level of flow measurement in the network and very old meters, responsible for incorrect measurement of customer consumption.

Also of note is the reduction of Non-Revenue water (NRW) in the two companies of around 8.8%, the equivalent of an annual recovery of 11.2 million m3 and significant cost reductions for the Water Utilities.

The technical capacity of AGS to respond to the challenge proposed was recognised by the Water Utilities and their Shareholder Group, as well as by the Chilean Regulator (SISS), making it possible to establish a partnership based on continuing its current work and its potential extension to other areas – reduction of infiltration and inflow in urban drainage systems, wastewater treatment and energy efficiency.

The results of the project also brought contacts from other Chilean Water Utilities and a new project is currently underway. This is also focused on improving water efficiency in the systems and, in just 7 months, there has already been a reduction of 3.6% in NRW levels, equivalent to an annual recovery of 1.4 million m3.
